Company at a Glance

JMT Films is an independent film distribution and international sales company, founded in 2003 and based in Tel Aviv, Israel. We specialize in the distribution, international representation and promotion of documentary, independent and short films.

JMT Films represents filmmakers and production companies from Israel and from around the world, and operates internationally with film festivals, broadcasters, VOD platforms, theatrical distributors, educational institutions and other professional partners.

Our catalogue includes films from different countries and cultural backgrounds. JMT Films is a private, independent company and does not represent any government or state institution. Our role is exclusively professional: representing, distributing and promoting films and filmmakers internationally.

JMT Films is also involved in the development, fundraising and international co-production of documentary projects, working with filmmakers, production companies and broadcasters from different countries. Our international co-production activities have included Live or Die in Entebbe by Eyal Boers, co-produced with Canadian Television (Radio-Canada); Saul Friedländer und die Geschichte by Yehuda Yaniv, co-produced with German Television (BR/ARTE); and One Eye Wide Open by Aner Preminger, co-produced with Dutch Television (AVRO). The Field by Mordechai Vardi was awarded the Hartley Film Foundation Development Prize (U.S.A.) at the CoPro Documentary Co-production Pitching Forum.

For more than two decades, films represented by JMT Films have received awards and recognition at film festivals around the world and have been broadcast by television networks in Israel and internationally.

Our films have been selected and screened at leading international film festivals and have reached audiences through television, theatrical distribution, VOD and other platforms in numerous countries.

JMT Films has developed long-standing professional relationships with broadcasters, distributors, festivals and other industry partners internationally. Our track record includes successful international festival campaigns, television broadcasts, theatrical releases and co-production partnerships, helping independent filmmakers bring their work to audiences beyond their country of origin.

Our success is built on long-term international relationships, personal attention to each film and a commitment to finding the right audience and distribution opportunities for every project we represent.

Catalogue of Films

JMT Films represents a catalogue of more than 170 films by filmmakers from around the world, including a strong selection of Israeli cinema as well as independent productions from Europe, North America, Latin America and other regions.

Our catalogue includes acclaimed films by Israeli filmmakers, among them veteran director Dan Wolman, Yair Lev and David Deri (You Only Die Twice / Der Mann, der zweimal starb), a film co-produced with ORF Austria and BR Germany; the documentary trilogy of Dan & Noit Geva; four self-revealing documentary films by Zohar Wagner, and her latest works Savoy and Cookies for Life; Live Or Die In Entebbe and The Spirit of Monastir by Eyal Boers; and Abu Salie and Souvenirs by Halil Efrat and Shahar Cohen.

We also represent films by well-known filmmakers from different countries, such as Zvika Gregory Portnoy (THE GUEST (Best Cinematography Award at IDFA 2024 and 8th Day of Khamsin), Anneta Papathanassiou (The Nymphs of Hindu Kush and Qadir – An Afghan Ulysses) and Arto Halonen (Conquistadors of Cuba).

About the founder

Michael Treves (Jean-Michel) is the founder of JMT Films and has been running the company since 2003. A film distributor and international sales agent, he has more than 25 years of experience working with international broadcasting networks and has a longstanding passion for cinema and television.

He holds a B.A. in Social Studies from Tel Aviv University, an M.B.A. from Reichman University (IDC Herzliya), Israel, and a diploma in Audiovisual Financing & Commercialization from Panthéon-Sorbonne University and INA, Paris.

In addition to his responsibilities at JMT Films, Michael Treves is regularly invited internationally to serve as a jury member, decision maker, tutor, moderator, panelist, guest lecturer, advisor, curator and selector at film festivals, film markets and professional industry programmes. He lectures on cinema, television and international film distribution and advises film festivals, film markets and filmmakers on international strategy:
