A Place to Be Ourselves follows eight individuals across Europe and Asia fighting for authenticity in a world that demands conformity, asking a universal question: Can you truly belong without giving up who you are?

After the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, three teenagers, a Russian and two Ukrainians, find themselves in France. Gradually, the lives of the three teenagers become intertwined. Together they try to find their place in a new country where they are safe but never stop feeling like outsiders. Yet even far from the front line, the war continues to shape their lives, gradually leading the story toward a tragic ending. Three Comrades explores what war does to the generation that will have to live after it.

NY-based filmmaker Halil Efrat follows Shahar Cohen two decades after their acclaimed documentary ”Souvenirs”. Shahar now lives in Amsterdam raising two Dutch-Yemeni children, fulfilling his late father’s dream. To support his family, he runs the city’s favorite falafel truck, employing refugees from around the globe.
