NY-based filmmaker Halil Efrat follows Shahar Cohen two decades after their acclaimed documentary ”Souvenirs” (2nd Audience Award: IDFA 2006). Now living in Amsterdam, Shahar is raising two Dutch-Yemeni children, fulfilling his late father’s deepest wish for grandchildren. To support his family, Shahar runs Amsterdam’s most beloved falafel food truck, employing refugees from all corners of the world. His son Salie, is a 14-year-old adolescent with a sharp tongue and plenty of criticism. Embarrassed by Shahar’s market job, he wants his father to open a respectable restaurant. Balancing the demands of fatherhood and survival, Shahar navigates his son’s growing distance through quiet trade-offs and characteristically selfless choices. In the heart of Amsterdam, he has built a surrogate family among fellow immigrants, standing as a revered father figure to his team. The fact that many of these refugees hail from Arab nations officially hostile to his homeland makes his quiet, generous spirit all the more poignant, a testament to human warmth in an increasingly divided world.
