”Tito, Margot & Me” is focusing on the love story between the British ballerina Margot Fonteyn and her husband, the charismatic Panamanian diplomat Tito Arias.

A photograph that captures a look of complicity between her jet-setter’s aunt and uncle detonates in a filmmaker’s niece of the couple, the need to know more about the love story between the British ballerina Margot Fonteyn and her husband, the charismatic Panamanian diplomat Tito Arias. A quest that starts at their burial site in a crypt in the basement of a Panamanian church, to New York and Cambridge, where the first sparks of puppy love arose when they were teenagers. She was an unknown dancer, and he was the son of the Panamanian president. She discovers that their love transcended fame, infidelities, an attempted coup d’état backed by Fidel Castro, and five close-range shots that leave him a quadriplegic.

TITO, MARGOT AND ME reveals a story as much unknown as fascinating.

Director's statement:

Many of my memories were boxed in old albums. In my case, a heavy detachment from my very political paternal family is a fact of life. When I was compelled to dig deeper, the box´s lid opened and I knew, then and there, that my uncle Tito needed a second reading. This story is not about ballet, but about love and how two very different characters decide to make it work as they redefine what real love is. My co-director Delfina Vidal was the one person who, even before me, fell in love with their story.
